The Salt Lake County Public Works Building houses administration offices for the Sanitation, Highway, Fleet, and Flood Control divisions.  The building acts as the public face for the County’s Public Works operations as well as to serve public works administrators and field staff in their daily, and sometimes dirty, routine. For this reason, utilitarian materials were used that represent the users, but were handled in a more civic tone, allowing for an appropriate public experience.  Primary building materials include board-formed cast-in-place concrete, steel panel cladding, and reclaimed heavy timber columns.  The building can be seen as a “material timeline” expressing building materials at different phases of their respective life cycles.  The project is certified LEED Platinum.
