30 miles west of Salt Lake City, the Grantsville City Library is set in a rugged, colorful agricultural community. The city’s rich history, surrounding desert foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains, and nearby Great Salt Lake influenced the conceptual design approach. Utilitarian ribbed metal panels in conjunction with wood-veneered cladding and extensive use of glass create a rich aesthetic, representing the natural beauty found even in harsh territory.
The 10,800 square foot facility is the first of its kind for the city and, in addition to the general collection, offers a dedicated Young Adult area as well as an extensive Children’s Library. Community meeting and conferencing spaces have been incorporated for use after hours. A Children’s Courtyard unfolds to a larger amphitheater space for small performances.
